Assignment Documents

You will use this libguide, and other research, to produce a practice IA entitled "To what extent can Alfred Wegener's Theory of Continental Drift be regarded as a scientific paradigm shift?".  It should be no more than six pages in length including works cited and diagrams.  All sources must be appropriately referenced.
Some hints:
- clearly define a paradigm shift
- thoroughly explain Wegener's theory and relate it clearly to earlier ideas
- discuss in what ways Wegener's work represents good science and bad science
- discuss Wegener's impact on later scientific discoveries
- reach a balanced conclusion to all aspects of the question
- restrict biographical details to those relevant to the question
- restrict pictures/diagrams to those which aid the understanding of the text

Tips for Success

  • Know alternative names/spellings for your topic
  • Your main focus is to ask a specific research question and answer it using evidence..
  • Start Early. Proper research takes time.  The better your research, the easier you will find writing the paper.

Original Research

What is intellectual property? A work or invention that is the result of creativity, such as a manuscript or a design, to which one has rights and for which one may apply for a patent, copyright, trademark, etc.

What is public domain? For works created after 1977, the term of copyright is life of the author plus seventy years. However, previous copyright acts had different rules, and those rules will affect the duration of pre-1978 works.
